MATE ROV 2026 (Nemo and Dory)

At the MATE ROV 24th annual competition, the CWRUbotix robot, "Dory", was deployed in St. Johns, Canada at the Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland! This year, we designed the robot to take on challenges surrounding the cryosphere. We placed 15th overall out of 36, and received the gROVer Award for demonstrating courtesy, kindness, professionalism, and assisting other teams, providing technical as well as moral support.

New features of Dory included a smaller electronics bay, a new manipulator design, a crab identification and detection A.I. and a new stereo camera enclosure. We would like to thank our sponsors, as well as Paula from Canadian Air, who helped us greatly with our flight and made our check-in process incredibly smooth.

This year, we had a great time designing the color scheme and thruster guards based off of Finding Nemo: Dory being the robot and Nemo being the float. We were able to include a pacific blue tang design for the thruster guards on Dory.

Our company spec sheet and technical documentation from this year’s competition are included below with more information.
